This item worked ok for about a Month then started to break. First the pump stopped working, then the power to the unit did not work. A loud beep was heard and then spent ages trying to fix to no avail. If you expect this to last forget it. Because I bought this a few Months I cannot replace it. You have been warned. You are better off buying one of the other units.

My unit kept shutting off. Sometimes it would stay on for 40 minutes. Sometimes it appeared to work for days, but the light was on at night. There seems to be no way to control the timer. Yoocaa refused to help unless I provided my order ID. This is going to a landfill.

August 2021 update: The company reached out to apologize and send me a new updated unit. This one is still not working out. The floating valve does not go higher than 2.5L and the water has turned disgusting and murky after two days! I’m going out of town soon, and I cannot say with confidence that i could leave this machine plugged in. I’m concerned I’ll come back to a breeding ground of algae, bacteria, viruses and mosquitoes in the swamp water since the pump doesn’t work. So the replacement is turning out to be much worse. There is a huge piece missing and water spills out of the base! Absolute garbage!!!

You may well ask, ‘What on earth is going on here?’

These are just a few reviews for the current number-one selling indoor hydroponic countertop garden on Amazon. Why is it number one? Because it is cheap. Is it any good then? It may be but you are dealing with an old fashion design where the electrics are installed inside the water tank and prone to have water ingress and then fuse the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). That’s the end of the machine when that happens.

What about parts? You will never get any spare parts because the company is based in China and the cost to send a new pump or set of lights is far too expensive. What about service? Service? Are you kidding? There is no ability to look after customer queries, offer any type of customer help or give advice on what and how to plant.

Amazon has become a shop for Chinese companies to sell directly to customers and when things don’t work out, delist and sell a completely different product. The wildly exaggerated ‘large tank of 3.5 litres’ on this machine is a joke compared to the 5 – 6 litres of competitors and it means that the 12 plants will be drawing up so much water when fully grown that daily fills will become a necessity.

It is not just this machine that offers consumers a cheap machine with hidden traps. Others boast of 12W LED lights which are really not worth getting excited about since 24W and 36W lights are the standard now. They may be cheap to run but the slow speed of growth will frustrate many.

It is not just the wide array of kits on Amazon that are confusing, many similar ones being offered at wildly differing prices and taking up to 3 weeks to arrive directly from China, but so too are the sponges.

Packs of cheap sponges on Amazon are made from all sorts of materials but there are quality sponges and they’re poor quality ones. The prices usually determine which are which. Many are made from spun cotton but the poor ones break easily, do not encourage growth and are not helpful to plant growth.

West Kent – www.west-kent.com – offers Amazon Prime delivery times, a full year’s guarantee, a chat button on their website for instant service and a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/465648538547967/ where anyone can ask questions, seek advice from members, post photos of their successes and interact with other enthusiasts.

Based in the UK, it can send out immediately replacement pumps, plugs, lights, sponges, baskets – in fact anything you need to keep your kit working. It is the only British company involved in the countertop hydroponics business and competes strongly with its American and Chinese competition, especially on quality and price.
